God created us to enjoy a relationship with him. But sin produced alienation between us and God.

The Bible says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The first step in restoring our relationship with God is to admit we are sinners.

The Bible goes on to say, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Sin leads to eternal death. But God offers us a wonderful gift, eternal life.

How is that possible? Romans 5:8 tells us. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins, so that we could enjoy God's presence forever.

But like any gift, we must receive it. We do this by believing in Jesus in a personal way. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). When we trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we receive the gift of eternal life.

But that is just the beginning! "Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come" (2 Corinthians 5:17). The new believer grows as he reads the Bible, prays, spends time with other believers, and seeks to follow Christ day to day.
